The way the theme, the diagnosis, the dealing with the issues were approached was heartbreakingly beautiful, and funny, so messy and beautiful. The theme of this book is not by any means lighthearted. Sara Jane Alan infused an amazing personality into Ellie’s voice, she made her real, and again, WOW. This was my first book by this author, but surely it won’t be the last, because the writing is fantastic. The theme, the friendships and the romance. I haven’t been in the mood for YA in a while, but this book… WOW, it just blew me away. Don’t cry Ellie, because once I start, I might not stop. This is what happy looks like6/30/2023 And I think it's really worth catching up on Seasons 1 and 2 because Season 3 is coming in August, and I just think it's one of the best shows on TV. There's an episode about the police character played by Zahn McClarnon. So there's a standalone episode about the aunties of this community. because they've established this world of Oklahoma, and because they've established these characters, the show is willing to get weird and silly. So there's all that like really nuanced writing and acting that is happening within this ensemble.īut there are also these episodes that. These four friends are just really going through it in Season 2 as they continue to deal with like the grief of losing their fifth friend member as they deal with sort of growing up, getting jobs, trying to figure out if they want to live on the reservation for the rest of their lives or if they want to move away. What is making me happy this week is that FX released their summer premiere schedule, and what I currently care about most is the third season of Reservation Dogs. And I say that because I'm writing about Reservation Dogs right now and I'm revisiting the second season and it is just taking me on such a roller coaster of emotion. Black Archives is a tangible and intimate artifact that widens the idea of Blackness in the United States, bridging past, present, and future through familial archiving practices. The book expands on a long-standing project of Cherlise’s, which began in 2011 as a Tumblr page and then developed into its own website. I was reminded of those lessons when reading Black Archives: A Photographic Celebration of Black Life, by the multidisciplinary artist Renata Cherlise. Only now is it clear to me that those books provided an early visual literacy for the extraordinary in ordinary Black life. I wasn’t aware at the time that I was studying composition, depth of field, mood, and intimacy when looking at her pictures. Her beautiful portraits-of my cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and great-grandparents in southeastern Wisconsin-captured silly faces, warm cuddles, flawless stunting. Or at least that was what I thought when, as a child, I’d page through the family photo albums at her home. In our family, my aunt Burnette was the designated photographer. |
